Last night’s HOA meeting was held via Zoom. It was the best virtual meeting yet with 54 attendees including the board. Hats off to the Board, and especially Deb McSherry for keeping the meeting on track.
The hottest topic was the proposed Driveways Rule which would limit driveway widening to 2 feet per side on the Parkhurst-Cypress side. One faction urged we recognize that CC& R’s are there for a reason, we all agreed to them, and they should continue to govern our community. The other faction pushed for individual rights and felt that if a precedent was set, as is the case here, that the gloves are off and everyone is free to follow that. The proposed rule was sent back to the ARC for further review. More community input is encouraged.
Our view is that most of us came to Morgan Creek because, among other factors, we enjoy the community look and feel. We need to set rules that maintain this which the CC& R’s do. Because someone violates the letter and spirit is not a valid reason for everyone to be allowed to do so going forward.
Let’s hope the ARC comes up with a rule which does support the CC& R’s and which the whole community can accept. What we don’t want is the prophecy of the Joni Mitchell 1970 song (Yellow Taxi) to come true “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone; pave paradise and put up a parking lot. “.
Here are highlights of other topics discussed which are of general interest:
The Walerga Cottage Associa office is fully operational. You can visit by appointment (916-677-8317). There is also a drop off box for bill payment. applications etc..
It was noted that some people are undertaking projects without first seeking ARC approval which are required by CC&R’s. Even though some are almost rubber stamp, people are urged to follow the process to avoidenforcement actions later.
Bids are in process for boccie ball court resurface, for Villas putting greens maintenance (possibly resurfacing with artificial grass), and for tree servicing.
Parking rules revisions and front yard rock and gravel use rule are going out to the community for comment soon.
Attendees were reminded that there are 3 board seats coming up for election this year. People were encouraged to run. Applications are available now. The nominations will take place at the November 17 HOA Meeting.
The 7 villas eyesore is still being addressed between the HOA and the developer. Latest is the developer has committed to finish the sidewalks and wheel chair access in the next two weeks.
As always, comments are welcome.
